Share of Voice
The percentage of AI-generated answers in your category that mention your brand, relative to competitors.
Share of voice (SOV) in the AI era is measured by running a representative prompt panel on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini, then counting how often each brand is mentioned in the generated answers.
What's a good share of voice?
Category-dependent. In a 5-competitor space, 20% is the equal-split baseline; market leaders usually clear 30-40%. Below 10% suggests AI engines don't yet associate your brand with the category.
How do you grow share of voice?
Two levers: increase the surface area of your content on the topic (more articles, more entity coverage), and earn third-party mentions that connect your brand to the topic in authoritative contexts.
