Brand Mention

A reference to your brand in third-party content, even without a backlink — a signal AI engines use to gauge entity importance.

A brand mention is any time your brand or product is named on another site, in news articles, in podcast transcripts, in YouTube descriptions, or anywhere on the public web. Whether or not the mention includes a hyperlink, AI engines pick it up.

For AI engines: yes. LLMs are trained on text, so a mention in a New York Times article without a hyperlink still strengthens the model's association between your brand and the topic.

How do you track brand mentions?

Tools like Mention, Brand24, Google Alerts catch web mentions. For AI-specific tracking, run a panel of prompts on each engine and parse generated answers for your brand name — Cite Hustle's audit feature does this.
