Google AI Overviews
Google Search's generative answer surface, which composes a synthesized response from multiple cited sources at the top of the SERP.
AI Overviews (formerly Search Generative Experience) are Google's flagship integration of generative AI into search. An overview appears above the traditional results for an increasing share of queries — particularly informational and how-to queries — and displays cited source links.
Which queries trigger AI Overviews?
Predominantly informational queries with clear factual answers, comparison queries, and how-to queries. Highly transactional queries and queries about sensitive topics (medical, legal, financial) trigger them less often.
How do you get cited in an AI Overview?
Strong topical authority on the query's subject, clear extractable answers near the top of the page, schema markup (especially FAQPage and HowTo), and conventional SEO signals — AI Overviews still favor pages that rank well organically.
